As a young woman in the 1940's, my mom, Selma, went to Traphagen Art School in NYC, which is now the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Shortly after, she became a sketch artist for Hattie Carnegie, a haute coutour fashion designer. Selma never lost her love for fashion as a way to express yourself. Fashion is instant language and reflects how we feel about ourselves and the times we are living in. She did this piece in the 1970's when women were stepping out and embracing their sexuality.
