My newest painting is Picacho Peak, 36” x 30,” which took me three months to complete (April through July). It was commissioned by Lisa and John, docent friends at the Phoenix Art Museum who were former search and rescue volunteers. They insisted that we hike Picacho together so I could experience the climb. At first, I immediately agreed, “No problem,” since I am a hiker and desert woman in pretty good shape. OMG! It was so challenging! I couldn’t have done it without them! Exceeding my comfort zone was exhilarating and worthwhile, since I felt the volcanic forces of the peak permeating my painting in the process. Hiking and painting it was unforgettable!
