One of my students at the Santa Fe Indian School in the late ‘80s was Claudine. Her friends called her “Cloudy.” I thought it was weird and sort of depressing; however, upon inquiry, they explained that it was a compliment and a great nickname since clouds bring rain. “Ms. G., Native Americans dance for rain!” My imaginary landscape, was inspired by my new awareness: Inquiry with genuine curiosity, kindness, and compassion broadens our understanding and brings us closer together.
